“Next Step Beyond” invites artists, designers, entrepreneurs, and scientists to reimagine how fashion can thrive beyond synthetics. We’re looking for work that disrupts the fast-fashion model by transforming discarded and unwanted natural-fiber garments into one-of-a-kind wearable art. Are you patching, mending, altering, sticking, weaving, or abstracting? Are you repurposing old textiles into new feedstocks?
We welcome explorations of regenerative and low-impact materials, including hemp, organic cotton, linen, bamboo, wool, silk, and mushroom mycelium. This year, we are especially seeking entries that reveal the full life cycle of a garment—from earth to body to soil—demonstrating how clothing can return to the land as nourishment rather than persist as pollution.
This is your invitation to show how we can clothe the world without harming the living systems that sustain it.
