For millennia, the Duwamish River was a winding, tidal estuary. The People of the Inside (Dxʷdəwʔabš) managed a rich ecosystem of cedar forests, salmon runs, and fertile mudflats. The river was a living relative and a primary source of spiritual and physical sustenance.
